i've been suffering from a really bad cold, with flu-type symptoms, for almost a week now.
very unusual for me.. it couldn't have come at a worse time, as i've just started working as a self-employed person, working outdoors in all weathers.
no sick pay, so no money coming in.. i expect that i'll be ok for monday, though.. i'm right in the middle of making a homemade lamb curry.
right before bedtime I take two of every vitamin that my wife has in the medicine cabinet. Then two aspirin.
A glass of warm fruit juice, then a really long, hot shower.
After that I go straight to bed,,, 95% of the time I feel much better in the morning.
is this a trend that is going on.
i live on the west coast and the po's or cobe's wife has at least one study if not more with a old lady who is totally mentally gone.
she has no clue what is going on.
I dated a sister back in the early 80's from a different circuit and her congregation was really into the whole study with the elderly found in nursing homes thing. .
One day we were out in service and the three of us went to the local nursing home to visit my friends "study" a 90 year old woman.
When she saw me she stood up, and grabbed my arm,,,, wouldn't let go. Everyone was flabbergasted, because she was never that excited to see anyone.
Well we soon found out why. According to her I was a spitting image of her long dead husband.
It was a little weird walking around the home with her hanging onto me. needless to say there was no study that day !
These days I have a therapy dog,, the elderly really seem to like that much more than reading the wt literature !
our jw contact sent us the " witness only " wt's again and i just had to make a thread on this mind numbing article.
starting on pg.22 in the jan.15th it deals with " coping with discouragement ".
it seems lots of jw's are under intense stress these days ( can you blame them ?
Oh man, what an excellent post. You really hit the mindless / endless walking on the wtbts treadmill.
I have put much of my "extra time" into worthwhile pursuits that ARE important, one example is having trained my dog to go visit patients in the hospital,
young children in phy. therapy, and old people in nursing homes. Worthless pursuits ?? After seeing the adults and children smile, laugh, or cry after we visit
there is no way that could be lumped together with "worthless things"

back years ago when we were getting ready to split, i suggested that two or three bros and their families went to the other hall, otherwise 75% of our new body would be belong to the same family.
my idea was shot down.
so, any time we needed a show of hands, all six of those men (father, two sons, two son in laws, a brother to one son in law) always voted the same way.
Barrington, Illinois had the Scott family, and boy did they control their hall, their influence had a huge ripple effect throughout the entire circuit.

Was it difficult getting rid of your bookstudy group?
No it really wasn't hard getting rid of it, you see Gods spirit was directing the whole thing . Several months after the carpet fiasco, one day it snowed all day, then freezing rain in the evening. This elder thought that I did not do a good enough job salting the walkway, and the BOE threatened us with moving the bs if I let the sidewalk, and walkway get bad like that again, (I got home at 6:00, shoveled, chipped ice, and salted for over an hour,, not good enough). We both looked at them and said "alright, move it then". They did not like that reply at all. next week the study was assigned to the kh basement. For the next two months the elders almost pleaded with us to have the bs back at our home. , thanks but no thanks we were done.

yea, that bookstudy stuff is really the pits isn't it ?
we had a bs for several years at our home. One year we made the mistake of replacing the carpet in the fall, and then asking everyone to remove their shoes when they came in. Here in Illinois it snows quite a bit, and the dirt and slush that was dragged in was unreal .
The conductor was upset that we asked the people to do this, he thought it was not "conducive to theoctatic thinking". Too bad, the shoes come off, we just spent lots of $$$ to replace the carpet and we would like it to last more than one season.
This guy took it so personally and was so irritated,
We felt like dropping the whole arraingement right there.
